MONROE TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Police say a Frechtown Twp. man may be the perpetrator behind a slew of damaged properties as far back as March after he was arrested in the act by deputies Friday morning.
Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said 34-year-old Jeremy Lang was taken into custody after he allegedly used a baseball bat to smash several windows in businesses and vehicles along South Dixie Highway just after 3 a.m. on July 22.
Authorities said state police were made aware of the damage after they were dispatched to a business in the 14000 black of Laplaisance Road after an alarm was triggered.
As troopers arrived on scene, they found shattered glass and came to believe the property was intentionally damaged.
Deputies from Monroe County then began searching the area for other damaged properties, authorities added.
Two deputies spotted multiple broken windows from businesses along the 13000 block of South Dixie Highway and while checking out the parking lot, they discovered more shards of glass from two damaged vehicles.
As law enforcement inspected the area, officials said they encountered a male suspect in dark clothing holding a baseball bat.
The suspect fled the scene on foot while deputies pursued, police said. The man was able to escape in the 5900 block on Vandercook Street and the sheriff's office K9 unit and Drone were called in to assist.
Deputies said the suspect was located apporximently 20 minutes later hiding behind bushes in the neighborhood behind the businesses.
He attempted to flee from police yet again, but deputies were able to grab his foot after he tried to climb over a privacy fence and was taken into custody without further incident, the MCSO said.
The suspect was identified as Lang and was taken to the Monroe County Jail for resisting and obstructing police. The sheriff's office said Lang is currently under investigation for other incidents of damage to multiple business dating back to March 17.
Authorities said anyone with information about this incident or other incidents of damage to Monroe Township companies, to contact Detective Mike Swiercz of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau at 734-240-7530.
