Destiny 2 Nerfed Well of Radiance Synergy With Other Bonuses

Destiny 2's recent patch includes an unspecified change to the Warlocks' Well of Radiance, which no longer has synergy with other bonuses.

Destiny 2's 30th Anniversary Pack came with one of the biggest sandbox patches the game has ever gotten, and a lot has changed. There were many buffs and nerfs to both weapon archetypes as a whole and specific items, like the Exotic sniper rifle Whisper of the Worm, which now can even compete with the newly introduced Gjallarhorn for great DPS. While there were many changes to weapons and Exotics gear as a whole, the focus of the sandbox update was mainly on Destiny 2's slew of different abilities and Supers, with the goal of making their usage less oppressive in PvP, shifting towards gunplay more.

Popular picks in the Crucible were gutted, much like Shatterdive, and every melee attack and grenade in Destiny 2 was given a differentiated cooldown and a power check to bring them more in line with Bungie's vision for Destiny 2. A similar principle was also applied to Supers, with each of them being tied to a specific tier that manages their cooldown. The Warlocks' Well of Radiance is the Super that regenerates the fastest in the game, and while players were happy with it, there were more changes associated with it that didn't make the cut in the patch notes.

A Reddit user called m4eix shared a post about the changes made in patch 3.4.0, which now grant some of Well of Radiance's unique buffs to the Warlock casting it, without extending them to the whole team anymore. This has two major effects: the first is that Destiny 2 players standing in a Well of Radiance will no longer benefit from Focusing Lens' bonus damage while the mod is still in rotation, and the second is that the Warlock's fireteam cannot shoot through shields anymore.

It was later confirmed by Bungie that this is not meant to be a stealth nerf, it was simply erroneously left out of the patch notes. The goal, according to a developer, was to remove huge increases in DPS that derived from the combination of Particle Deconstruction and Focusing Lens, something that was never intended to begin with. However, this change also leaves Destiny 2's Hunters in a dire situation for endgame viability.

Another unspecified change was discovered with Gjallarhorn's hidden perk and combos with other rocket launchers, considering it has Grenades and Horseshoes active at all times despite the gun not listing it. Furthermore, the Exotic can now make nearby allies' rockets clear whole rooms with Chain Reaction and deal immense damage with Lasting Impression.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
