NEW Springfield Armory 1911 DS Prodigy AOS: Double-Stack 2011

If handgun competitions on the weekends with a 2011 pistol is your jam, then Springfield Armory has announced a new offering to wet your whistle. Today, they have unveiled their new 1911 DS Prodigy AOS. This is a double-stack 1911-style handgun with an Agency Optic System (AOS) to fit all of your favorite, modern red dot optics.

From everything like a black Cerakote finish to a match-grade bushingless forged stainless steel bull barrel, this pistol is built to run hard and be surgically accurate at the same time. Also, you will have all the rounds on board that you could possibly need. You get both 17+1 and 20+1 magazines from the factory with the option to also buy 26+1 magazines directly from Springfield Armory if you so choose.

The new Prodigy 9mm, the first in our new family of 1911 double-stack pistols, takes everything that shooters love about the 1911 platform and enhances it with increased capacity and a host of performance features,” says Steve Kramer, Vice President of Marketing for Springfield Armory. “Combining cutting-edge capabilities with all the proven benefits of the 1911, the Prodigy is a must-have addition for any handgun enthusiast’s collection.

From the outset, tacticians have the option of either a 4.25″ or 5″ barrel that will run you $1,499. If you want to add in a factory Hex™ Dragonfly™ red dot then the price gets bumped up a little bit to $1,699. Between all 4 selections, you are getting a hell of a value considering other 2011 pistols on the market go for $3,000 – $5,000 without an optic or any upgrade over the Prodigy to speak of.

Double-stack 1911 pistols – or 2011s – have always intrigued me, but I have never been willing to bite the bullet on one when they cost upwards of a small down payment for a house. With the Springfield Armory punching in comfortably at $1,499 with a bevy of features, it is a very enticing value proposition. What do you think? As always, let us know all of your thoughts in the Comments below! We always appreciate your feedback.
